Counties Receive First HEDIS Reports

Key Staff: Bethany Dominik, Senior Epidemiologist

Last month, CalMHSA sent Measurement Year (MY) 2023 Healthcare Effectiveness and Data Information Set (HEDIS) reports to 22 participating counties. This intensive coding and analytics of counties’ data produced reports comparing the DHCS MY 2022 calculations and NCQA National 50th Percentile for 2022, as well as an overview of data sources and methodology used to calculate the measures.

DHCS’s Comprehensive Quality Strategy requires county Mental Health Plans and Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery Systems to calculate HEDIS measures annually in order to standardize and quantify performance across set domains.

CalMHSA’s calculations and analysis for participating counties includes:

  • Acquiring multiple large data sets
  • Interpreting and applying a complex set of measure specifications
  • Calculating the required performance rates
  • Visualizing performance rate results
  • Measure validation support
